Rassilon Vs River Song : Who Performed The River Song?

Brilliantly written, incredibly clever, genuinely terrifying, and a complete joy to watch. the highlight of this episode, i can't decide; whether it's the doctor himself, the perfectly cast river song (played by alex kingston), or the weeping angels. the doctor becomes far less bumbling in this episode, and transforms into a much more self-confident, trustworthy character.

Even the music was a throwback to that two parter. alex kingston was as always amazing as river song, and capaldi gave another stellar performance. the special effects were great too, and the music was just beautiful.

The doctor's apparent death at lake silencio was a fixed point in time, but river song prolonged his final moment by refusing to take part, creating river song's world. as time fell apart, river was desperate to save the doctor, and built a timey-wimey distress beacon, informing all of time and space that the doctor was dying. responses came from all over the universe that they would help.

(audio: omega) creating the eye of harmony rassilon and omega created the living metal validium, (tv: silver nemesis) and, with the help of the other, also created the hand of omega, a stellar manipulator. (prose: remembrance of the daleks) the bruce master, while posing as the doctor, later claimed that rassilon, as well as the "forefather of all time lords", had been his mentor; (prose: the novel of the film) the doctor, by more than one account, was the reincarnation of the other. (prose: lungbarrow) while one account held that rassilon was the risk-taker of the two of them, (audio: omega) another claimed that rassilon was more cautious at the prospect of using the hand of omega to become a lord of time, whereas omega was eager to impose their own order upon creation, claiming to the other that they had learned from their mistakes with the minyans.

Hartnell might not be around anymore, but hurndall does an admirable job of recapturing the grumpiness of the first time lord. having the old boy accompanying the bossy 'tegan' ( janet fielding ) into the tomb of rassilon was an inspired idea, showing just how stronger the companions had become in the past twenty years. also nice were the brief appearances of 'captain mike yates' ( richard franklin ), 'liz shaw' ( caroline john ), 'jamie' ( fraser hines', and 'zoe' ( wendy padbury ) as phantoms in the tomb.
