Ninth Doctor Vs Third Doctor : Who Plays The Most Intense Doctor In Auton?

Christopher eccleston provides what may transpire to be the most intense doctor, although he plays second-fiddle to billie piper's unexpectedly well-acted rose – who effectively 'saves the day'. the superficial auton plot succeeds in introducing the protagonists, although the situations and scenarios are somewhat so-so. camille coduri and noel clarke's respective acting leaves much to be desired.

The number of deaths is quite surprising; particularly in the case of one character although he does 'recover'. having the doctor send rose away along with a message saying he didn't expect to survive worked well; it showed us just how far each of them was prepared to go to try to save the other. christopher eccleston was on fine form as the doctor; he may only have been in the series for one season but he was a fine first doctor for the new era of the show.

Christopher eccleston excels as the "good guy" on the bad side, a very stringer bell-esque character who takes a business approach to everything. the supporting cast all make huge impressions as well; rafe spall and stephen rea both create two of the most terrifying villains in recent memory. spall the livewire with his finger always on the trigger and rea the calm and mysterious shadow figure hiding behind the door.

In particular there is a great, spectacular stunt when an auton is knocked down and falls dramatically, careering down a huge slope, apparently to its death, only to just get straight back up.jon pertwee remains on top form along with an excellent guest cast and all the regulars do well although it is sad that the character of the doctor's 'assistant' liz shaw is replaced. her replacement character jo grant goes on to be a very endearing character but liz shaw was the better companion for the doctor in my opinion with a strong intellect as well as bravery. the addition of captain mike yates is great but perhaps they transferred the strength and intelligence of liz shaw onto yates and passed the glamour and warmth of liz onto jo grant.

It is quite possible that on their planet (as in some earthly societies) promotions are made on the basis of social status rather than age, experience or ability. together with jon pertwee's third doctor, tom baker's fourth doctor was the incarnation with whom i was most familiar during my childhood. both played the character as an eccentric english gentleman, but pertwee (perhaps taking his cue from peter cushing's "unofficial" doctor of the two spin-off feature films from the mid-sixties) stresses his gentlemanliness, whereas baker places greater stress on his eccentricity, possibly influenced by patrick troughton's second doctor.
