Shrek (mike myers) and fiona (cameron diaz) have truly settled into married life, although for shrek, the solitude of wedded bliss is somewhat hampered by the duties of a royal, having donkey (eddie murphy) and puss (antonio banderas) as captains, and worst of all, the truly scary prospect of being trapped in all of the above by the passing of king harold (john cleese). the ailing royal frog does leave his son-in-law with a timely loophole--the existence of a truly distant relative. while fiona, queen mom lillian (julie andrews), and the rest of the female court attempt to ward off the ambitious yet juvenile prince charming (rupert everett), who has recruited the greatest fairy-tale villainy to his cause, the guys' latest "whirlwind adventure" brings them into contact with the proposed heir apparent-- classic high school loser artie (justin timberlake).if you fell in love with the mock product-placement rampant in the second film, or suffer from a short attention span, it's probably best you wait on this one.

In fact, that jackass charming himself mucks things up for our heroes, as does a malevolent fairy godmother. they both intend to knock shrek out of the picture and let the prince weasel into fiona's heart. the unhappy king even pays puss in boots to whack the big guy, which doesn't go quite as planned.

After he is hired by farquaad to save a princess from a dragon's keep he finds that fiona, the princess treats him like a normal person and not as a hideous ogre. donkey, his loyal steed respects him also and he gains them both as friends until he finds out that fiona has had a curse put on her.a morale from this story is to not judge people by their cover, or before you get to know them. people usually judge shrek the moment they see him, being an ogre.if it wasnt for shrek i'd doubt we'd ever get anything good on the internet.

However, unlike his fairy tale counterpart, he does not try to trick the ogre into changing into a mouse, but instead makes a direct, frontal assault on shrek, which works up until the feline gags on a hairball, spitting it up. shrek and donkey think of what to do with him as donkey even proposes to give him the bob barker treatment (neutering), but puss begs for his life and accidentally reveals that the king was the one who hired him to kill shrek. while shrek is sulking about this, he says the king said fiona would be better off with a prince charming but when donkey glares at him, he apologizes, saying he thought shrek was asking him that question.

Finally when the fairy godmother dies, in an attempt to cast a spell to kill shrek which is deflected onto her by king harold's armor, she bursts into a host of bubbles. her death later influences charming to get revenge by taking over far far away. although the fairy godmother doesn't appear in shrek the third, she is mentioned numerous times by prince charming.

Shrek, lord farquaad and the dragon are as well very strong characters, the first two also with well-fitting voices. furthermore there are very fancy dialogues, a lot of droll details, surprising ideas and some funny insinuations regarding the main competitors and another famous movie...check out the donkey, it's a must see! 8/10.
