Brilliantly written, incredibly clever, genuinely terrifying, and a complete joy to watch. the highlight of this episode, i can't decide; whether it's the doctor himself, the perfectly cast river song (played by alex kingston), or the weeping angels. the doctor becomes far less bumbling in this episode, and transforms into a much more self-confident, trustworthy character.

Biography becoming river song river song was the third incarnation of the assassin melody pond, the child of rory williams and amy pond who had been stolen away (tv: let's kill hitler) by the kovarian chapter to be used as a weapon against the doctor to prevent the siege of trenzalore. Cotton haynes, as a juvenile delinquent version of roy harper, the same. emily bett rickards, as convenient plot gap filler, felicity smoak, a computer nerd, is again all show, but mildly charming in a deeply irritating fashion.the guest cast, thankfully, is better - john barrowman is an excellent corporate main villain, and even alex (river song) kingston shows up as laurell's mother. for comic fans, you'll get the pleasure of seeing a brilliant rendition of deathstroke, a less brilliant deadshot, a pretty cool, but totally changed royal flush gang, and kelly hu's china white.

Even the music was a throwback to that two parter. alex kingston was as always amazing as river song, and capaldi gave another stellar performance. the special effects were great too, and the music was just beautiful.
