Ninth Doctor : Who Plays A Companion That Has Little Relation To Previous Companions?

Piper plays a companion that has little relation to previous companions, who is brought into the doctor's adventures through sheer luck and then stubbornness. she is perfect for eccleston's doctor, simply because she's spirited in a way that demands answers and wants flare in her life. both actors are commendable for that.

Jack is featured in various doctor who and torchwood books and has action figures created in his likeness. jack harkness first appeared in the 2005 doctor who two-part story, "the empty child" and "the doctor dances", when rose tyler (billie piper), a companion of the ninth doctor (christopher eccleston), meets him during the london blitz. although posing as an american volunteering in the royal air force, jack is actually a former "time agent" from the 51st century who left the agency after inexplicably losing two years of his memory.

In the early 1990s, verity lambert was approached by the bbc to revive the series. lambert wanted peter cook to play the doctor at the time, but she eventually declined involvement. christopher eccleston and peter capaldi, the ninth and twelfth doctors respectively, were offered the chance to audition for the role of the eighth doctor but both declined.

As he is adapting a mire helmet, the doctor claims he is "reversing the polarity of the neutron flow", a phrase said many times in various ways during doctor who, beginning with the third doctor. david tennant and catherine tate appear in flashbacks as the tenth doctor and donna noble, respectively, in scenes from "the fires of pompeii" (2008) in which peter capaldi also starred. a flashback from "deep breath" (2014), the eighth series' opening episode, also appears as the doctor finally understands why he chose his current face.

This finally gives mcgann his regeneration episode. the big finish references are nice, effectively canonising that great set of adventures, and it certainly fits into the character of the eighth doctor, now broken down by his experiences. great to see karn again, which fits into the new eighth doctor adventures where the doctor met the sisterhood.

The number of deaths is quite surprising; particularly in the case of one character although he does 'recover'. having the doctor send rose away along with a message saying he didn't expect to survive worked well; it showed us just how far each of them was prepared to go to try to save the other. christopher eccleston was on fine form as the doctor; he may only have been in the series for one season but he was a fine first doctor for the new era of the show.

As for christopher eccleston and billie piper, there's no doubting their connection, despite their contrasting characters. eccleston plays it cool and calm in a role that has the wit of the sixth doctor, the hilarity of the second doctor and seriousness of the third. his outfit befits him as a contemporary character, and also advertises the mystery of his new face.
