Logan Vs William Stryker : Who Is Too Good To Be Hannibal Lector?

I now know why.not a very entertaining film, manhunter grossly underachieved what the great thomas harris tried to bring to the audience through his book. not to be confused with the academy award winning ‘lambs, manhunter seriously lacks any smidgen of character development. we never truly understand will graham, and as good as brian cox is (nuremberg), it was just too hard to believe anyone else to be the `great' hannibal lector.

(former rock video director tarsam singh would draw more explicit 'mental illness as pop video' comparisons in the cell, which actually starred a pop star, in j-lo.) creepy as all hell, manhunter encapsulated the maggoty heart of a decade in which surface appearance (and manhunter was all about appearances, real, imagined or stolen) was paramount - until american psycho pulled off the same trick a few years later.yet manhunter's ace-in-the-straitjacket-sleeve was actually a peripheral character; the brilliant but insane psychiatrist dr hannibal lecter (here 'lecktor'), played by brian cox, all dead shark eyes and twitchy malevolence.by the time silence of the lambs, rolled round, lecter had been prodded closer toward centre stage, with anthony hopkins replacing cox, kick-starting a 'who's the better lecter' debate which has occupied film buffs for years. hopkins' interpretation turned lecter into the stuff of penny dreadfuls, a freddy krueger quipster or high-iq jason vorhees.

Archive footage of brian cox's portrayal as william stryker in x2: x-men united is used in wolverine's flashback. singer cameos as a man with a small film camera as magneto walks away after mystique's escape in paris. in a post-credits scene, brendan pedder portrays the ancient mutant, en sabah nur.

Hugh jackman is without a doubt the only actor who should ever play this character. sir patrick stewart also is very good in the film. charles xavier is a very hurt and very sad man in logan, i think stewart really portrays xavier as that hurt man very very well.

Hugh jackman plays the title role in "logan" (wolverine's chosen name), a dark, violent story in the future where the surviving x-men have disbanded; and jackman takes whatever side jobs he can get to support himself and the elderly, frail professor xavier (played by patrick stewart). it is a bleak existence for both men. stewart needs drugs to keep him from having seizures that produce psychic blasts of energy that can kill people and level a small city; and jackman's healing factor is severely diminished due to something poisoning his body.the former teacher and student are barely getting by when both get the chance to become heroes again.

I'm happy to say that fox and director james mangold pulled it off with flying colors. logan is the perfect sendoff for hugh jackman, who has played wolverine in nine movies over seventeen years, and it's hard to see how anyone can replace him (and you know they will eventually). logan is a character driven drama that evokes classic westerns like shane and unforgiven, while still being a superhero movie.

But, with a decreasing healing factor, logan goes down and stays there for about 30 seconds. if you are a fan of the character, this is absolutely heartbreaking to see. he then gets up (slowly) and gets smacked around by these guys as he slowly kills them, then finally goes rage mode to finish them off, having sustained several injuries that don't seem to be healing too quickly.

As always, the casting of the characters remains spot-on. jackman has never been more compelling as logan than he is here, exhibiting restraint and temerity that brings newfound gravitas and pathos to his character. mcavoy and fassbender continue to make a fascinating pair, portraying their emotionally complex relationship with heartfelt poignancy especially when contrasted against their kinder, gentler older selves who wonder why they spent so many years bickering.

It's a heartfelt and beautiful send off for hugh jackman's 17 year run as the character and a brilliant ushering in for the new generation of x-men.the type of people who will like this movie will be fans of drama, fans of action, fans of x-men, fans of more emotional and dramatic comic book movies, like 'the dark knight' and fans of wolverine.would recommend.# possible spoilers!hugh jackman was phenomenal as logan and i genuinely wouldn't be surprised if he was nominated for an oscar here because it was honestly brilliant. patrick stewart was magnificent as charles xavier and provided a much better and more heartfelt performance than mcavoy in 'x-men: apocalypse'. we all know that(hopefully) this will be the last time jackman and stewart reprise their roles as these characters and in honour of that, they made their friendship seem so genuine and emotional and doesn't seem forced at all which was amazing.

This is logan at his lowest and most desperate point in his life. the same can be said with patrick stewart as professor x. stewart gets to take his character in a direction never seen before. like jackman, he gets to show more range in his character as a mentally unstable senior charles who becomes a more dangerous and unpredictable person then even wolverine himself.

And danny huston's take on william stryker was just not on par with bryan cox's portrayal of the character in x2, as huston portrayed stryker as a pathetic, cowardly adversary rather than a cunning, scheming opposer. that doesn't mean all the casting is bad, for lynn collins was triumphant as wolvy's love interest kayla silverfox and tim pocock was decent as young scott summers/cyclops, helping the mutants escape stryker's lab and get recruited by charles xavier in one of patrick stewart's finest cameos. one of the film's prominent highlights is the action.
