Hercules is a 2014 american action-adventure fantasy film starring dwayne johnson as the titular character. it is directed by brett ratner based on a screenplay written by ryan j. condal and evan spiliotopoulos. the film also stars ian mcshane, rufus sewell, aksel hennie, ingrid bolsø berdal, reece ritchie, tobias santelmann, joseph fiennes, peter mullan, rebecca ferguson, irina shayk, isaac andrews, and john hurt.

Dwayne johnson plays hercules as he goes from a mercenary for john hurt -- the english one -- to someone with a conscience.i expected this to be about as ridiculous as the legend of hercules, released the same year. i was pleasantly surprised. not only is the production and cast first rate, with some fine cinematography by dante spinotti, but director brett ratner's staging allowed me to play the "where did they lift that shot from" game; i identified bits from samson and delilah, spartacus, and conan the barbarian during the denouement alone.it's based on a graphic novel by steve moore.

I felt the "plot" of this movie wasn't interesting and luthor was a pretty lame villain, which made me sad. one of the only reasons i wanted to see this movie was to see kevin spacey play lex luthor and i was sad to walk away disappointed when i saw him play gene hackman as lex luthor instead.a lot of people will love this movie and i will most likely be one amongst a very small minority who didn't like this movie, but this is the way i see it: we have a superman who's playing at being christopher reeve, we have a lex luthor playing at being gene hackman and we have a movie that's pretty much the same as the movie we saw 20 years ago... and i'll probably the only one to find something wrong with that.

Of course like reeve, i don't think anybody could play the role of lois lane like kidder did.to continue with the other characters, gene hackman was a much better lex luthor than kevin spacey. maybe it's because gene hackman had fun with the role whereas kevin spacey does not. gene hackman gave lex luthor a personality, but kevin spacey's luthor is just grouchy and mean.

Ditto to kate bosworth who is decent as lois without ever capturing the verve and vivacity of margot kidder. kevin spacey was actually a bit of a disappointment in all truth. his lex luthor is more threatening than swaggering gene hackman (whose association with blithering imbeciles works in detriment to his criminal genius).
